"Growing Up, The Rogue River"

My family laid a claim on the Rogue River
We built a log cabin
and we cleared the land
and made an open meadow
and a garden

Because you know what, we never had anything handed to us
We worked for everything we got
And sometimes, the harder we worked
The further we fell behind
We suffered more than anyone
I worked like a beaver!
Like a beaver in the dam after a washout!

We had so many predators
Animal and human!
I killed a cougar,
but only after he killed all my sheep
Wolves got in!
Even more sheep dead!
And the sickness!
It took everyone!

I bought an Western chance pony for twenty five dollars
She made me money
But money is a construct
